Sarasota Police Department Honored with ‘High Visibility Enforcement Agency of the Year’
The Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit was honored Wednesday morning by the Florida Department of Transportation with the High Visibility Enforcement Agency of the Year award for their commitment to pedestrian and bicycle safety throughout the City of Sarasota from August 2019 through May 2020.

Two shooting incidents under investigation; Pattern concerning for Sarasota Police
Sarasota Police detectives are investigating two separate shooting incidents in the last two days. It is unknown if these two shooting incidents are related. Chief Bernadette DiPino is concerned about the number of shootings that have happened since a state of emergency was declared March 13, 2020

Former assisted living facility nurse arrested after families report fraudulent credit card use
Yolanda Taite, 29, of Tallevast, has been arrested and is facing charges of exploitation of the elderly and grand theft from a person over 65 years or older after family members reported fraudulent credit card use of their family members living at an assisted living home in the City of Sarasota

Updated Hours at Arlington Park & Aquatic Complex
The City of Sarasota Parks & Recreation District is happy to announce that Arlington Park & Aquatic Complex has updated their public swim hours. Starting on Monday, August 17, 2020, public swim times will be Monday through Friday, 10:00 am – 6:30 pm.

Applications for small business grant program due Aug. 7
The deadline to apply for the initial rollout of the City of Sarasota Small Business and Safety Assistance Grant Program is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7. Eligible small businesses are encouraged to apply for a $5,000 grant as part of the City’s ongoing COVID-19 economic recovery efforts.

City Commission sets preliminary millage rate; No increase proposed
After extensive review of the proposed Fiscal Year 2020-21 budget, the City Commission unanimously set the preliminary operating millage rate at 3.2632 mills, the same millage rate as the current fiscal year.

Bradenton man sentenced to 22 years in prison following death of child in 2017
Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo, 28, of Bradenton, was sentenced to 22 years in prison with credit for time served followed by five (5) years probation with special conditions by Judge Charles Roberts on July 13, 2020. Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo was found guilty by a jury in March 2020 after the death of a child in 2017.

Two men arrested in Sarasota after caught climbing on construction crane

Three Sarasota Police officers test positive for COVID-19
Three sworn patrol officers with the Sarasota Police Department have tested positive for COVID-19. These are the first three positive cases for the agency. All three officers are at home on quarantine.
