Sarasota to compete against Israel in online chess match
Manasota Chess Center, the new community hub for in-person chess, in collaboration with the Sister Cities Association of Sarasota, will hold an online international chess match against the Tel Mond, Israel Chess Club. Tel Mond, Israel is one of Sarasota’s international Sister Cities.

Sarasota Police Department Welcomes Two New K-9 Teams
The Sarasota Police Department has welcomed two new K-9s. K-9 Bruin and K-9 Brody recently completed more than 600 hours of training and are both currently assigned to the Sarasota Police Department Patrol Division.

The Sarasota Police Department will host the 2022 Law Enforcement Memorial Service on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. at Light of the World Church, 3809 Chapel Drive, Sarasota. The event is held annually during National Police Week, which is May 11-17, 2022.

Sarasota Police Investigating Two Shooting Incidents – Unknown If Connected
The Sarasota Police Department is investigating two shooting incidents that happened on Thursday, May 5, 2022, between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. It’s unknown at this time if the two shootings are connected. An arrest has been made in one of the incidents.

Fort Myers Woman Arrested and Facing Charges of False Imprisonment
Sarasota Police officers arrested Dina Wilson, 61, of Fort Myers, after witnesses said she pointed a gun at a 16-year-old girl and drove her to an area business just before 10 p.m. on May 4, 2022. Wilson is being held at the Sarasota County Jail and is facing charges of False Imprisonment.

Downtown fountain to close during refurbishment
Public art fountain Good Heart Place, located within Paul N. Thorpe Park in downtown, will be drained and temporarily turned off for refurbishment Monday, May 9. The park will remain open to the public.

Troche appointed as Sarasota chief of police Swearing-in ceremony to be held April 29

Search Warrant Leads to Arrest of 2 People & Seizure of Firearm and Illegal Narcotics
The Sarasota Police Department executed a search warrant at a home at 1331 15th Street, Sarasota on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, just after 9 a.m. Two adults were arrested, and illegal narcotics and a firearm were seized from the house.
