Swearing-in ceremony held for largest recruit class in SPD history
On Thursday, August 31, 2023, Sarasota Police Chief Rex Troche held a swearing-in ceremony for 18 new Police Officers, the largest recruit class in department history. The ceremony was held at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.

City receives $400K grant for MURT connection to Legacy Trail, starts NEPA approval process
The City of Sarasota has been awarded a $400,000 grant to construct the Legacy Trail Payne Park Alderman Multi-Use Recreational Trail (MURT) project. The grant is funded by the Federal Highway Administration and administered at the state level by the Florida Department of Transportation.

Sarasota Police assist with DHS investigation; Methamphetamine trafficking organization indicted
U.S. Attorney Roger Handberg announced the unsealing of a 17-count indictment charging seven Bradenton residents with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine. If convicted on all counts, each faces a max penalty of life in prison.
